The feeling on the stage is of a favorite place where Young is able to create his music exactly as he wants, supported by long-time touring band friends Ben Keith, Ralph Molina, Rick Rosas, Pegi Young and Anthony “Sweet Pea” Crawford, plus an onstage painter portrayed by Eric Johnson. There are delicately offered acoustic numbers like “Sad Movies” and “Mexico”; mesmerizing electric travelogues into the artist’s psyche (”No Hidden Path”); searing, chaotic anthems including “Like a Hurricane” and “Cinnamon Girl”; and rarely performed pieces like “Kansas” and “Ambulance Blues” that provide glimpses of Young’s less public persona.

In 2005, legendary rocker Neil Young and filmmaker Jonathan Demme collaborated on the concert film Neil Young: Heart Of Gold, shot during a series of performances at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium; the film was designed to sum up the larger themes of Young’s music, and was inspired in part by the musician being diagnosed with a potentially fatal brain aneurism. In 2009, Young, who had since been given a clean bill of health, teamed up with Demme for a second concert documentary, but while Heart Of Gold focused on the country-influenced side of Young’s body of work, 2009’s Neil Young Trunk Show is dominated by his love of unvarnished hard rock, with plenty of Young’s trademark noisy guitar solos and extended workouts with his band (including longtime collaborators Ralph Molina and Ben Keith). The Killing Jar Hollywood movie reviews :
The story behind “The Killing Jar” is as strong as the one in front of the screen. The film was conceived as the ultimate model for how to achieve a high-quality, low-budget independent film. The entire film was shot in only ten days. Production began after sunset and shot until sunrise, but never went into overtime. The film was shot in an actual roadside diner. Although the diner was closed, all of the furniture, restaurant equipment and kitchen supplies remained, eliminating the need for a large art department. The Copal Grill was torn down a month after the film was completed.
The total film budget was under $400,000. Over half of that was spent on the actor’s wages, travel and accommodations.

The film was shot on two matching state-of-the-art Arriflex D-21 high-definition film-style cameras with Cooke film lenses. The cameras produced an uncompressed, 4.4.4. high-definition image in a 16 x 9 aspect ratio. Director Mark Young and Director of Photography Gregg Easterbrook each operated a camera. Ironically, neither had shot on this camera before production. The production did not have a grip and lighting department. The existing overhead fluorescent lights in the diner with augmented with a few additional work lights purchased from the local hardware store.

The location was less than a mile from major international airport. Production had to halt shooting sound takes during incoming and outgoing planes for several hours every night. The continuous rain outside the windows came from a single garden hose.
The film was shot in sequence, from page one to the end. This allowed the actors to better stay in character throughout the course of the story.

The Method Fest, the only major film festival in the U.S. that focuses on the acting side of the independent film industry, has announced their 12th annual lineup. Actors to showcase their new films include Anthony Hopkins, Laura Linney and Charlotte Gainsbourg in James Ivory’s latest “City of Final Destination,” Carey Mulligan in Shana Feste’s “The Greatest” and Richard Dreyfuss in Daniel Adams’ “The Lightkeepers.”

A total of 30 feature films and 59 shorts will screen at the festival, which runs from March 25 to April 31 in Calabasas. Ivory’s film will open the festival, while a number of film will have their world premieres at the fest including James Mann’s “Desert Son,” Nicholas Gyenes’ “The Penitent Man,” Hilbert Hakim’s “Krews” and the Kazakhstani film “Strayed” from director Akan Satayev.

The short films to screen at the fest include a dense lineup of U.S. and international works, including Joshua Weigel’s “The Butterfly Circus,” Jen McGowan’s “Touch,” and “Some Boys Don’t Leave” from director Maggie Kiley.
“We now have become a worldwide showcase of quality independent film,” stated Don Franken, The Method Fest Executive Director in an official press release. “We also have many world premieres this year. They sent a big-ass camera into space, and now we get to see some pretty pictures in IMAX: Hubble 3D (opens in the U.S. and Canada on March 19; no U.K. release date has been announced). Apparently the astronauts also fixed the Hubble Space Telescope while they were up there — they didn’t just goof around with that IMAX camera. Leonardo DiCaprio narrates. Will we hear him shout, “I’m king of the world”? Cuz that works even better from orbit, I bet.

Matt Damon hunts down Saddam Hussein or something in Green Zone (opens in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. on March 12). I predict he’s all conflicted and shit while he’s being badass for America.

Is it ironic that Robert Pattinson has to ask, Remember Me (opens in the U.S. and Canada on March 12, and in the U.K. on April 2)? He may wish many of us — like the squealing 12-year-olds — would forget him. If so, he should probably stop making movies that make him look all adorably adolescently angsty.

Visually lush and full of chiaroscuro, ‘Vincere is also a showcase for the talents of Giovanna Mezzogiorno as Ida Dalzer, the woman who met Benito Mussolini when he was the editor of Avanti, an ardent Socialist with strong populist, anti-monarchical, anti-clerical views, who dramatically dares God, if He exists, to strike him down.

Opening sequences alternate between 1907 when Ida first meets Mussolini (Filippo Timi) in Trent, and 1914 in Milan. She is a respectable middle-class woman with a beauty salon. On the eve of WWI, he shifts from pacifist liberal to pro-war rightist. Deathly afraid of ending in mediocrity, he is ravenous for power. Ida intensely supports him whatever his direction, and sells all her possessions, including jewels, furniture, and her business, to support his newspaper. This leads to the founding of the paper “Il Popolo d’Italia,” which becomes a fascist rallying-point. The film makes clear that she is madly in love but never mad. It also makes clear that though he declares his love of her and fathers a son named Benito, born just before he goes off to the front, whom he acknowledges, and they evidently marry, he keeps a certain distance.

His faith broken by years of battle as a crusader, Behmen returns to central Europe to find his homeland decimated by the Black Plague. While searching for food and supplies at the Palace at Marburg, Behmen and his trusted companion, Felson are apprehended and ordered by the dying Cardinal to deliver a young peasant girl – believed to be the witch responsible for the Plague – to a remote abbey where her powers can be destroyed. Behmen agrees to the assignment but only if the peasant girl is granted a fair trial. As he and five others set off on this dangerous journey, they realize with mounting dread that the cunning girl is no ordinary human, and that their mission will pit them against an evil that even in these dark times they never could have imagined.

In Dominic Sena’s new adventure, supernatural thriller Season Of The Witch, five men brave dark forces and travel through hell in order to save mankind. The film stars Nicolas Cage as the fourteenth century knight, Behman, who leads the mission to transport an evil witch to the place where her powers can be destroyed.

When Cage’s character returns to his homeland in Central Europe after years of battle as a crusader, he finds the Black Plague is destroying his people. As he’s out looking for food and supplies, he and his trusted companion Felson, played by Ron Perlman, are kidnapped and ordered by the Cardinal to transport a young peasant girl to a remote abbey.

The girl is believed to be the witch responsible for the plague, and Behman and Felson are charged with getting her to the abbey, so her powers can be destroyed. Behman agrees to take her, under one condition, that she be granted a fair trial. Throughout the journey, however, Behman realizes more and more that he is dealing with a greater force of evil than he ever expected, and that there is something extraordinarily sinister about this girl.

Claire Foy, the British actress best known for her title role in the BBC1 production of Little Dorit (2008), portrays the girl in Season Of The Witch. The cardinal is played by legendary actor Christopher Lee, who is no stranger to horror/thriller type films. In 1957, Lee appeared in a Hammer Film Production of The Curse of Frankenstein (1957). He went on to appear in several more Hammer Film Productions throughout the 1960’s and early 1970’s.

This is Nicolas Cage’s second film with director Dominic Sena. They worked together previously on the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds (2000). Sena chose Hungary, Austria, and Croatia, as shooting locations for this film, which lent an eerie visual authenticity to the story.

Season of the Witch will be released on March 19, 2010. The film is rated PG-13 for thematic elements, violence, and disturbing content.
